Much of the headache I have about BMI discussions is that the issues with it are true for most biological metrics, but that rarely comes up when talking about BMI

don't you think the reason bmi is so big is it's tied in with stigma of being "fat", "obese" and all the social and cultural implications of it? nobody can know or see your hba1c, and while someone can't directly see your bmi, your overall weight is the emotional issue

Partly true, mainly because it is tied with being "healthy". Which in turn is again tied into a stigma of fat as being "unhealthy". When it is not only an oversimplification but in some cases plain wrong. In add. of implying causation one way - where there is only correlation

It doesn't, precisely, but the easiest explanation is that it is an average of blood sugars over the last 3 months
