I mean, the article said scientists "hoped" it would get better. But really, who didn't hope it would get better? Of course, we expected the "fully susceptible population" to outweigh seasonal effects.

Great point I've seen recently is that: being an epidemiologist right now means saying it is irresponsible to count on things that we desperately hope are true.
