My point is that there may be some people who've been fired unfairly, but the general thrust of this letter - that there is a chilling censorious culture robbing people of their freedoms of speech - is nonsense

Some would, I'm sure. But others would argue that it'd be good if Asian writers felt free to set stories about slavery in an Asian setting, right? It's a hard case to paint as a 'great example'.

I'm not sure how someone voluntarily withdrawing their book once it was pointed out that it had racist overtones is in any way an example of the "chilling" and "censorious" nature of our culture
