Of course not, but you did single out the phrase. And 'silence' is paired with 'or wish them away', and juxtaposed with 'exposure, argument, and persuasion'.
I'm not denying it's a well-written letter, I'm saying the ideas contained therein are absurd
Moreover, the phrase "we need to preserve good faith disagreement without dire professional consequences" is a hilarious piece of nonsense. As if the primary issue is good faith arguments and not people who uncritically say some truly awful stuff
