THERE IS NO ECONOMY WITHOUT PEOPLE IF EVERYONE DIES, YOUR ECONOMY IS GONE ANYWAYhttps://twitter.com/MaxCRoser/status/1278695571289767936 …

I wish more people would understand that we do not have to chose between saving the economy *or* protecting the health of the population. It’s not either/or. The goals are aligned: only if we protect people’s health can we get the economy back.

This tweet seems out of character. Perhaps I am misinterpreting but “Reopening the economy” and “everyone dying” is not what’s on the table. Reopening the economy and more people dying unnecessarily is though, which is reason enough to be cautious.

I did engage in some dramatic hyperbole lol, it's just frustrating for people to continually misrepresent the situation as a choice between health and the economy

Economy? And mental health, relationships, kids education and wellbeing, domestic violence etc

It's a ridiculous false dichotomy to pretend that the virus would've had no economic impact outside of government restrictions. As if a worldwide pandemic wouldn't have had any impact on consumer confidence without govt intervention 😂

How many cases of depression and anxiety that could harm people for life or kids ruined education do you think it's worth sacrificing to stop another person bring hospitalized with Covid19?

Ridiculous leading question. Can you demonstrate that a single case of depression has been caused by govt intervention that would not have happened without?

Beyondblue experienced surge of calls yesterday as 300k locked down into their leper colonies. Just collateral damage I guess?

      1) anecdotes aren't data 2) no comparison 3) absurd emotive nonsense You cannot link a single case of depression to govt action. There are numerous cases of depression plausibly linked to COVID, however

So how long would you like people locked up for and kids denied education? Europe is now a more open place than Melbourne even though more deaths and cases.

You don't think there is any mental health impact from lockdown?

I will say one thing jere. In the UK they included an exception in their lockdown meant for victims of domestic violence. Who mostly didn’t use it, partly because they’re controlled and gaslit by their partners and who obeyed the laws to a T, I’m sure .1/

And 29 women were murdered by their partners during this period while the PM’s advisor illegally drove his family 5 hours to his parents after his wife got Coronavirus and then cited this exception as an excuse to do so.
