This is remarkably incorrect, and really illustrates why people who are smart in one area but complete novices in another should refrain from commenting To put it another way, classic Dunning-Krugerhttps://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1277507826529660928 …

There are a ridiculous number of false positive C19 tests, in some cases ~50%. False positives scale linearly with # of tests. This is a big part of why C19 positive tests are going up while hospitalizations & mortality are declining. Anyone who tests positive should retest.

Or between bad antibody tests and PCR tests. Or he's an idiot. Or dishonest, and burning his credibility at the alter of capitalism. Or trying to widen his appeal to save the planet, by expanding the market for electric cars. Or all of the above, except the last.

this isn’t even a D-K or non-transferable expertise issue. A fifth grader can figure out that hospitalizations are increasing in current areas of concern. It’s just arrogance and some motivated reasoning.

I don’t think it’s Dunning-Kruger, given his history of getting up to speed to the point of being able to contribute to rocket science etc. He’s a polymath. I think this is old fashioned confirmation bias. He really really doesn’t want Covid to be real.

There is no evidence that he has in any sense "gotten up to speed" on the relevant issues here. None.

The lag between cases and deaths is well understood. We would expect to see deaths continue to drop for the next week or so, then start trending upwards again shortly after

Yep. He was arguing for specific settings like end-expiratory pressures. This stuff is hard for critical care doctors with decades of experience. That was the day I decided not to buy a Tesla as I can't trust someone with such a lack of his own limits.
