Context - I'm thinking about IFRs here. If there's a substantial reporting delay (say, 14 days) for some proportion of COVID-19 deaths, then calculating IFR becomes a problem

Another question- is there any published metric that evaluates the reliability of the official national covid death tolls? or a quality score for national covid statistics?
-
I don't know of a published example, but you could work something out using excess mortality

IS this related to the protesting at all? If so I'd be interested in whether or not they have increased the number of cases.
-
Reporting times will have no relation to protests (I'm an epi)

Does this help? https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/its-so-hard-to-know-whos-dying-of-covid-19and-when-67543 … not a scientific paper, but it mentions scientists working on the topic, so at worst you may try to contact them directly. I can also provide numbers for Italy - give me some time.

@adamaltmejd has been tracking it for Sweden. And he wrote a paper about how to model the lag. https://adamaltmejd.se/covid/ https://mobile.twitter.com/adamaltmejd/status/1272550566632329219 …

No, but in British Columbia, our director of public health said that only 1/2 of excess deaths during the pandemic were attributed to COVID-19. She encouraged docs to not just put pre-existing condition as reason of death on certificate if COVID-19 was suspected or confirmed.
