One thing I find interesting about the whole mask debate is that, at least in Australia, the majority of spread seems to be in places where masks are least useful (i.e. family gatherings)https://twitter.com/drvyom/status/1277379987620782080 …

1/ Thank goodness. “Professor Sutton said the health department was still working on a communication strategy for masks but signalled advice would likely be for settings where social distancing is harder to maintain, such as on public transport and food markets.” #COVID19au pic.twitter.com/2e3Dg7XQYT

Perhaps in Australia that's where we need to encourage them to be worn!

Maybe, but I suspect people will be much more resistant to wearing masks at family gatherings than on public transport and the like

yup - I think it's unlikely they'd have been helpful so far given our, until now, v low transmission.

Given the distance between us and family and the fact that our families are in a high infection region, there are one of three chances we'd be unmasked when visiting. Slim chance, fat chance and no chance. Dying really fouls up my weekend plans.

But is it also because public transport usage is still no where near as close to where it was pre #COVID19Vic? We also haven’t fully opened hospitality venues such as bars, pubs, concert halls etc and have limits on the amount of people inside enclosed spaces eg supermarkets.
