ICYMI I wrote a deep-dive into masks, why healthcare workers wear them, and why you probably don't need to FYI @SkeptInquirer @welovegv @CaulfieldTimhttps://medium.com/@gidmk/you-still-probably-dont-need-a-mask-for-covid-19-7af055c2cf0f …

Nice post, but this seems to me to be the key claim. What is the evidence that COVID-19 infection isn’t primarily airborne?pic.twitter.com/gWvWbIPW03

It is something of a challenge to determine with any certainty, but the advice is based on contact tracing and theoretical methods of transmission. WHO has some info here https://www.who.int/news-room/commentaries/detail/modes-of-transmission-of-virus-causing-covid-19-implications-for-ipc-precaution-recommendations …

It doesn’t seem from that report that there’s much good evidence either way. To me, its virulence implies airborne transmission and I wonder if the focus on hand washing has made things worse by giving people a false sense of security.

Nah, airborne transmission and infectiousness don't go hand in hand. It's more complex than that. Also, fomites are usually the biggest worry even with some airborne infections (i.e. measles)
