So the vast majority of the JACC editors were in the more-standard "couple thousand dollars in meals and speaking fees" range but the "average" presented without any context makes it appear as though each editor walked off with half a million.

Even with some of the larger payments, lumping it all in together is a problem. Payments of $500-2,000 could easily be primarily reimbursements for flights and the like, but are here reported as some sort of nefarious double-dealing

At $37 you could be talking conference swag too. I understand that even small payments can be bad, but some of it could be extremely precise reporting.
