I think the end goal for everyone is controlling the epidemic not solely making everyone wear masks. This paper falsely sells the idea that masks in lieu of everything else will control the epidemic using bad data. That is dangerous.

The most egregious thing is even a passing understanding of epidemics or statistical approaches to estimating effects would have shown a) better ways to analyze this and b) they didn't have the necessary data! Completely ignorant blog masquerading as a paper.

There is a paper that does a much more thorough job with much more data, but has been largely ignored thus farhttps://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.05.22.20109231v2 …

There is a weird amount of tribalism and bad claims made in support of community masks-for-all policies. Like many, I would guess they might help, but I’ve seen not only bad studies, but very bad interpretations of normal studies too. It’s genuinely odd.
