Essentially, you get to decide on the meaning of whatever you are reading as you read it, so ignore the author and take what you will from the books

I should clarify - this is not meant to excuse the behaviour nor dissociate the works from the author, more that if you find meaning in the novels you can hold on to that while still feeling upset/outraged over Rowling's opinions

I have a rather large tattoo of the Hogwarts crest on my back. It was a hugely important series to my childhood and one of the only bonding points between me and my father who is now dead. At the same time I acknowledge the problems in them and their author.
