I don't know who needs to hear this today, but the placebo effect probably isn't real and mostly describes common statistical failings of scientific research

I’m very interested in this so I’ll be reading this paper tonight. But why are people reporting that pain is better despite taking fewer pain meds? Meaning, how do you square the “regression to the mean” circle? People over reporting at outset of study? Genuinely curious.
