Two schools in the eastern suburbs closed today due to positive COVID tests. While frustrating, it makes sense to proceed this way: targeted closures which leave the vast majority of schools open, avoiding the educational, health and economic costs of across-the-board closures.

What people are less able to see are cases in the community that occurred while schools were closed that might not have occurred if kids and staff were at school, or which might have happened regardless of being at school

Yeh definitely, easy to sensationalize a few cases at schools but these children at least probably didn't become infected there. I imagine there'll be very rigorous contact tracing now, so in many ways this is the perfect example of the system working!
