I think the idea that we should exclude COVID-19 deaths in care homes from the total fatality rate because they're somehow different/unimportant is a fairly damning indictment of people's views on aged care in general

My mother died in a care home from infection last year. Nursing homes are particularly unique settings. The most frail and vulnerable of society approaching the end of their lives. When my mum became critically I'll from RTI, she refused hospital.

Maybe because of DNRs or personal wishes- nursing homes very often are places where people pass away in peace and with dignity. I think deaths in these settings **could** be counted in a different way.

Of course people in residential aged care are people, but many are at the end of life. All life eventually ends. We need to look at excess mortality, in comparison with previous years.
