I think the idea that we should exclude COVID-19 deaths in care homes from the total fatality rate because they're somehow different/unimportant is a fairly damning indictment of people's views on aged care in general

That is clearly correct but knowing how many of the cases are in care homes does tell you something about that the risks are in the community and also how to go about improving the situation.

We shouldn't exclude but take note. Why? Because the way to deal with it might differ from the way we deal with general population spread. If the vast majority of deaths occurre in Nursing Homes we can ease lockdowns and focus on their safety.
