I'm not familiar with the testing process. Which part of the test is useless? After the swab is taken, do they put it into some sort of reagent before it goes to the lab?

No good for detecting acute infection (use RT-PCR), get better as time goes by and antibodies develop but still bad at predicting a true negative.
