No worries, people everywhere are very heated. I feel fortunate indeed to live in Australia right now I must say

Well you've just come out of a long hot summer, and no coronavirus in history has spiked significantly in that season Guess why? ;-)

Well this one has definitely changed the dynamic! Singapore has had a huge outbreak, Indonesia as well, Peru, Mexico...a lot of equatorial countries with lots of Sun doing poorly rn unfortunately

Sunny countries don't necessarily have higher vitamin d, if they avoid being in the sun they'll still be low, while countries with little sun know they're deficient and take supplements

But that would speak against the original claim as well...

"This study shows – counterintuitively – countries at lower latitude and typically sunny countries, such as Spain and northern Italy, had low concentrations of vitamin D and high rates of deficiency. These countries also experienced the highest Covid infection and death rates"

The original implication was that a long, hot summer would protect against coronaviruses. Quite clearly, if general sun exposure isn't well correlated with vitamin D, that claim becomes even more unlikely!

Sun exposure is correlated with vitamin d, but if people stay indoors during the hottest part of the day (as is more common in Italy) they'll be deficient, in the UK we go out in the midday sun at the first opportunity

I grew up in the UK and I don't think that's true at all. But, regardless, the point still stands - if BEHAVIOUR is the defining factor behind vitamin D status, then summer itself is not actually causing anything

There's a difference between comparing countries and seasons within a country. the sun is too low in winter to make any significant amount of vitamin d here so virtually everyone will be higher in summer even if they keep out of the sun it's difficult to avoid it completely

Look, we keep getting off point here. We both agree that summer in and of itself clearly doesn't reduce the number of coronavirus infections, let's leave it at that
