My temper is short with this corona lunacy I've had to suffer for 6 weeks now - so apologies if I was harsh. The monkeys in charge are screamingly in need of an engineering technical crisis manager. It's a disgrace.

No worries, people everywhere are very heated. I feel fortunate indeed to live in Australia right now I must say

Well you've just come out of a long hot summer, and no coronavirus in history has spiked significantly in that season Guess why? ;-)

Well this one has definitely changed the dynamic! Singapore has had a huge outbreak, Indonesia as well, Peru, Mexico...a lot of equatorial countries with lots of Sun doing poorly rn unfortunately

Myriad reasons for that - but you need to know the mechanisms for it - epidemiology always falls at the first fence - #engineering crosses the finish line with the solutions ;-)

The problem is that mechanisms are great until you get to the complexity of the real world. Most tested plausible mechanisms - with in vitro and in vivo models showing benefits - fail when tested in actual people. Both sides are important!

The real world is ruled by engineers We integrate correlational, mechanistic, comparative analysis, root cause diagram (arrows of cause), statistical inference, expt'l design, tech autopsy etc etc. - into a time-to-resolution powerhouse Everyone else has one part of the elephant.

Lol, I could argue that the real world is governed by epidemiologists and statisticians, because we take the lofty ideas of engineers and actually test them to see if they work We'd both be wrong I think 😉

A real world governed by epidemiologists would sink into the mire without a trace.... 😁

A real world without epidemiologists would still be breathing in asbestos, smoking frequently, unaware of infectious disease outbreaks, clueless about health risks, and have no idea which medical treatments were more effective

I have to say, I do find the general attitude of people who are keto or similar towards epidemiology to be incredibly ignorant. You may disagree with a single area of epi, but it's a huge field that has improved your life in many ways I suspect

very good point. many of nutritional epi deserves a lot of blame, but it seems many struggle with the idea of being "anti-establishment" in one area, and yet accepting mainstream wisdom in another. its not all "mainstream" or all "anti-establishment"..few can do that
