My theory is that a bunch of people who’ve based their whole lives on being smart, and thinking they should be running things because they’re smart, keep losing to Trump and his idiot/criminal associates. It’s easier to take losing to a supervillain than losing to ... that.

That happens in politicians' offices. "Government" per se is separate from the political layer. If anything, government can be hamstrung by its own commitment to transparency, ie. they save everything but don't dedicate resources necessary to manage files.

A friend recently told me you can tell conspiracy theorists have never done any project management. It’s herding cats to get some people to do what’s needed, let alone whole govt depts & keeping it ‘secret’ .
