I've yet to see a reasonable argument for old people staying home that actually lays out a plan for doing this in a way that reduces their risk substantially Often, older people are more vulnerable and LESS ABLE TO STAY HOME ANYWAY

Someone on my Facebook believes that the old & vulnerable should stay home but everyone else should be “set free” because the Economy and the government shouldn’t be interfering with our civil liberties like this without an end date
I just don’t know how to argue with him.pic.twitter.com/DL7DcGoXMK

The basic counterargument is that we can't just relax all restrictions because it would make everything we've done pointless and so we have to carefully relax things slowly which is exactly what the govt is doing

Lockdown - Tough measure but easier to manage. Anything else may seem more reasonable but a disaster to manage/enforce and alienates people causing mental anguish. Practical strategies may be possible. Just need to be pragmatic and review all aspects before implementation

Those who have recovered from the virus the last few months?
-
Are there enough of these people? Will they be willing to volunteer their lives to take care of the elderly? Will they still be able to pass the disease on even if they cannot get it themselves? Etc

The worst part of this is that apparently everyone is perfectly ok with just locking old people inside forever

It's very gross
