Yeh I really don't know. Initial results are promising but that's a huge problem if it's not at least compared to another drug being used

They were reporting outcomes from compassionate use, rather than a placebo controlled trial. Not useless data, but then again not a NEJM paper...

But according to STAT, their 2400-person trial is comparing 5-day use of remdesivir with 10-day and no control of any kind. Doesn't have to be placebo - they could use an active control!
