There are about 10 million people in Michigan, 2 thousand is about .02% so the protests may or may not be meaningful. And USAers are a wild bunch, not as prone to protest as the French though.

I think the problem is more that that's 2000 potential exposures who have already proven they'll stay mobile and not observe health advice.
