Sure, and I’ve heard, and in many instances sympathise, with their arguments.
I also ‘reckon it gives you some insight into a suggestion when’ a specific subset of relevant experts intimate theirs is the only opinion that matters.
It’s. not. just. about. health.

What a strange straw man. This is a specific issue, not the entire coronavirus response. I don't believe anyone is saying "only listen to epidemiologists", or that it's just about health

Straw man? Well, no. No intention to misrepresent for starters. Agreed, no one saying those things. No one is saying this is the 'entire coronavirus' response either.

"relevant experts intimate theirs is the only opinion that matters" No one said that, no one intimated it, and it is amazingly disingenuous to suggest that anyone did

Yep, fair point. Happy to concede that I pushed the language and apologise.

For clarity - we agree that epidemiologists themselves aren't the only voices qualified to opine on the pros and cons of releasing the models?

Of course not. But I think it's worth noting that the relevant experts don't seem to be interested in the debate and wondering why that might be

Thanks.
Note to self - you're doing homeschooling and twitter badly right now

For background, in my observation AusEpiTwitter has been extremely reluctant to put constructive criticism of the intergovernmental response wrt openness & transparency on the public record. It probably explains why I was triggered to respond in the first place.

Re: "But I think it's worth noting that the relevant experts don't seem to be interested in the debate and wondering why that might be." I'm not sure that is the case, do you mind expanding further?

Well, as you've noted most epidemiologists aren't super interested in getting the govt to release models. I think the fact that the experts aren't calling for something tells you bit about whether that step is a good idea

Again, I've heard the arguments. FWIW - while I strongly support the principles of openness and transparency as outlined in the relevant plans, I'm not sold on simply releasing the model - at least without further info as to how and what exactly.

Anyway, circular argument. You see epidemiologists as *the experts* and I believe you're defining the scope of what the underlying problem actually is too narrowly. Suspect we aren't going to get anywhere. Have a good day.
