One of the things the whole #Masks debate has shown starkly is how little people want to engage with uncertainty
It can't be "we don't really know if they help"
Everyone feverishly wants a sure yes/no

The only complexity is the convoluted explanations on how mask removal is more dangerous than allowing the pathogen directly on to face, or how masks change behaviour ( got an RCT for that, by the way?). Not everything is complex.
-
It’s pretty safe to say that nothing in biology is not complex. Sometimes we get away with simple m... but underlying complexity usually bites us eventually. Over a hundred years and we’re still working on aspirin... Oh, and not masks, but PPE is hard: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20828485/

Also, if you liked the way the mask debate played out, you’re going to love the approval process for new antivirals and vaccines. The maxim of potential large reward vs zero or no risk is going to dominate in a crisis. Watch and see.

You think new antivirals and vaccines are zero/no risk? What a delightfully wrong perspective
