This is probably true. There’d a be an R/ SAS line down the center in hour 1

Someone told me today they were learning Stata and I accidentally asked why

There are some things that Stata is good at - graphing and multiple imputation are what I've used it for in the past.

I think it's just by far the easiest to use and quickest to pick up of the software that still has a very good practical application - unlike, say, SPSS, which is easy to use but very limited in a lot of ways

If we're going for total utility, SAS or R are both far better, but learning to use SAS takes months and R takes weeks, whereas I've taught my MPH students Stata in less than a day

"SAS takes months and R takes weeks", hey that's just your opinion mang. On a serious note, I've rarely heard anyone say that SAS had a steeper/longer learning curve than R, maybe when compared to tidyverse R as opposed to base R? But I usually hear the opposite (R more difficlt)

It's probably because I learned Stata before R and there are some similarities tbh. Going straight out would've been very difficult
