Well, for one, the article is about making your own. In addition, more companies are starting to help. Since I wrote this, Austria decided no one can go into a grocery store without a mask, and today the NY Times published this:https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/31/health/coronavirus-asymptomatic-transmission.html …

The responsible answer is to not go out unless absolutely necessary. It's dangerous to give people a false sense of security with home-made masks or masks that they don't know how to wear properly.

And the main negative of untrained ppl wearing masks is touching their face to adjust. The photo shows exactly that - face touching

No, actually I’m not touching my face in the photo. I’m talking. But also, the argument for widespread masking is primarily to keep the virus in (not out, as it is in hospitals). The masks mean those pre-symptom or without symptoms won’t be spreading.

I love that you sowed your own@estolte. It’s something that out of work tailors/crafty/bored ppl can do for their family/community. It’s effective when accompanied by public education on how to wear it. Sick people won’t wear it unless everyone wears it.

This is a good piece on point (by
@GidMK) https://medium.com/@gidmk/you-still-probably-dont-need-a-mask-for-covid-19-7af055c2cf0f … (March 31). This is a moving target, of course. As science/data evolve, policies will/should evolve too (hence@CDCgov move). For now, I'm with@WHO,@GovCanHealth, etc. But mostly (of course)#SocialDistancing!2 replies 1 retweet 3 likes -

I read it. It’s similar to many other Western pieces in that it’s looking at preventing infection to the mask wearer. What I’m seeing from countries that have mandatory masking is that they are trying to get masks on the asymptomatic spreaders, to keep the virus in.

But the science/conversation will continue to evolve. I’ll leave the conversation now. Hope you all stay safe!

I talked about that! Complex issue with no easy answers, I agree, but I don't think the evidence shows that it would reduce infections at a population level You as well!
