ICYMI I wrote a deep-dive into masks, why healthcare workers wear them, and why you probably don't need to FYI @SkeptInquirer @welovegv @CaulfieldTimhttps://medium.com/@gidmk/you-still-probably-dont-need-a-mask-for-covid-19-7af055c2cf0f …

People are going nuts with PPEs. It makes them feel safer, which honestly could be worse because it can make people engage in riskier behavior.

People love to say this. But what about the huge psychological effect of coming out to the street and seeing everyone wearing a mask. Chilling. And a non-stop reminder that things are serious and maybe be careful and not touch your face.

Good thorough read, for sure. But still something that remains to be seen. None actually wants to come right out & say masks would be advantageous bec like Hydroxychloroquine/chloroquine we’d have mass hording (already happened to some extent) & healthcare would be worse off.

Nice post, but this seems to me to be the key claim. What is the evidence that COVID-19 infection isn’t primarily airborne?pic.twitter.com/gWvWbIPW03

It is something of a challenge to determine with any certainty, but the advice is based on contact tracing and theoretical methods of transmission. WHO has some info here https://www.who.int/news-room/commentaries/detail/modes-of-transmission-of-virus-causing-covid-19-implications-for-ipc-precaution-recommendations …

But isn't the conclusion for point 4 a bit flawed? There are some... tricky studies claiming wearing a mask does not help *you* much. But we've seen above that wearing a mask while ill probably helps *others*. So for community protection you need to consider both!

        1. I walk through a room full of people wearing masks. 2. I walk through a room full of people not wearing masks. The risk for me to get infected, is it equal, less or more?

and, if I'm infected and don't know it. 1. I walk with a mask through a room full of people. 2. I walk without a mask throug a room full of people. The risk of me infecting others. Is it equal, less or more?
