"Masks stop respiratory droplets sometimes!" is a ridiculous exercise in surrogate outcomes
We KNOW that masks are unlikely to prevent community acquired infections. THAT'S what we care about, not some statistics on particulate movement #COVID19
I'm not saying people don't ~want~ to use it, I'm saying in clinical trials people ~don't~ - because of discomfort, perceived value etc - which is a very different argument

What would the results have been if they'd tried physical distancing in a home? Would that also have been determined to not be viable because people could not maintain it all the time? Seems to me that pandemic flattening measures would be different than what works in a home.

Well, there's significant evidence that washing hands and face hygiene can help prevent infections, so who knows? Not many RCTs on distancing tho. Most of it has been tested on seasonal or pandemic influenza, true that this virus is somewhat different
