THIS IS A KEY POINT THAT EVERYONE IS STILL NOT RECOGNIZING Everything we do to slow #COVID19 has to be SUSTAINABLE It might be MONTHS or YEARS before things are fully back to normalhttps://twitter.com/shalailah/status/1240506995913842690 …

"It will mean people will have to self-isolate. It will mean we will have to behave differently and that will happen for quite a period of time - six months, I believe, at least," PM @ScottMorrisonMP says. #auspol

People are so keen to close schools, but what happens if your kids have to stay home for 3-6 MONTHS? Are we prepared for that? It's not as easy a choice as everyone is making it seem

Note: I should say that "fully back to normal" is different to "mostly back to normal" There may be some restrictions for quite a long time, but it is unlikely our current situation will last years

Some form of restrictions must be in place for months, yes. But has anybody explained why the specific restrictions imposed now MUST be in place for 6 months. E.g. why not go hard now with month-long lockdown to prepare ICUs, THEN impose more relaxed restrictions for 6 months?

If only it was possible to materially increase ICU capacity so quickly. The increase would have to be very large and the limiting factor may be the number of ICU specialists.
