Basically, the scientists observed some behaviours in hunter-gatherers They then said that these are different to office-workers, perhaps in important ways
The hunter-gatherers were much more active than most of us BUT they also spent a lot of time squatting, which the researchers hypothesized could be an important part of their overall fitnesspic.twitter.com/dlJPh2wZnT
Problem is, this is pure supposition at this point. Absolutely no idea if there's any causal link between a small group of people squatting and better physical health
However, the press release was ENORMOUSLY positive, and we now have articles across the world saying nonsense like SQUATTING WILL SAVE YOUR LIFEpic.twitter.com/ZwdVpxO2UR
It's just nonsense 1. The study didn't do anything other than observe behaviour 2. No idea if this will translate to other populations 3. No idea if it's even the squatting that helped!
You could just as easily assume that the hunter-gatherer's Tanzanian heritage is what kept them so slim, it's really impossible to know
At best, we could perhaps argue that a hunter-gatherer style existence will keep you a bit fitter than an office job WHICH IS SOMETHING WE ALREADY KNOW
TL:DR - Headlines are nonsense - Study doesn't really tell us much - Squatting may burn a few more calories - Still probably not an effective health intervention - SQUATTING WON'T SAVE YOUR LIFE
