In fact, the experts recommend using case fatality RATIO rather than case fatality RATE precisely because it is a fluid number!

I don't remember who said this, but there's no "expert" in existence for Covid as a whole. There are expert epidemiologists, expert virologists, expert public health specialists, etc. It's very specialised, and even then, this is a novel virus with unknown characteristics.
