This is spinning out into a bigger, wider employment problem. More than 330 Guardian employees - one fifth of the workforce - have signed a letter to editor Kath Viner expressing concerns about the recent pieces on trans issues.https://www.buzzfeed.com/patrickstrudwick/guardian-staff-trans-rights-letter …

Yes v interesting - personally, I am with Viner. There are legitimately different views on what remains a contentious issue.

Gay, there is no reputable dispute that transgender people are real and who they say they are. Trans people are recognised in law, in medicine and in science. Your comment is like saying climate change or vaccinations are “contentious” because some people don’t believe in it.

Would the Guardian give a platform to people who wanted to have a debate about racial superiority disguised as phrenology?

I think that's a very apt comparison - if nothing else, the piece contained several very simple factual inaccuracies that spoke of agenda over even the semblance of truth

So Gay do tell us exactly what's "contentious" about transgenderism. Does it have it's origins in simple condescending non-acceptance, enabled by some opinions? Talk your way out of that one. Right now you're coming off as veneered tabloid.

The contentious part is that trans women's rights are often in conflict with cis women's rights, vis a vis sports and single sex spaces.

Such a weird attempt at a gotcha question. Do you regularly ask complete strangers about their partners genitals or is it only when you're online?

Apt comparison?! It's the "U r just like Hitler" argument. It's a lazy, intellectually dishonest move that can be applied anywhere one wants to avoid engaging with the complexities of a situation. But this arrogant denial won't vanish the prob & it will have soc/pol consequences
