Where does this recommendation about the use of *hot* water to wash hands come from? AFAIK, regular room temp tap water is all that's needed along with soap & at least 20sec of good hand-rubbing & rinsing (=washing) , followed by proper drying.

But also potentially more cumulative skin damage depending on frequency? No hot water is standard derma advice for underlying eczema, dry skin, etc which are also high prevalence and underdiagnosed

Hot water is microbiologically no better at removing germs than cold water (mechanical action plus soap do most of it) but causes significantly more skin irritation which means HCWs are less likely to wash their hands. Cold water all the way
