Something to consider - #ncovid19 now almost certainly meets the criteria for a stage 6 pandemic based on WHO definitions (the remaining criteria centres around the term 'sustained')pic.twitter.com/uGtYdRwi65

However, something else to consider - current number of cases is ~80,000 If the growth in cases had remained exponential, we would've expected to see numbers in the millions by now So, some good news too

Hooray! We no longer need to worry about the coronavirus pandemic, because that category is officially phased out by the WHO. https://cnb.cx/3a1ROrm

Interesting this says nothing about severity, not is severity part of official definitions, but WHO in press conf overnight did mention severity is a factor in declaring pandemic?

Apparently this is outdated anyway, but my understanding is that 'pandemic' is almost entirely about spread of disease and has very little to do with severity of the illness

They’ve phased out that category though (technically)

WHO cautioned during the SARS outbreak their use of “pandemic” had no correlation to severity Nobody listened to them then, and the current global hysteria is much worse than then WHO has said they’re resisting announcing updates as the media uses them to fuel panic
