The counterpoint to that is the very real economic and social costs of travel bans. They may only be marginally harmful, but something that impacts more than a billion people doesn't have to cause much harm to each person to end up killing millions

Really how necessary is all the airline and cruise travel? It’s possible that it might reduce CO2 emissions and save lives. Sure the minority-rich would be upset - but millions will not die because of travel restrictions. It might even save millions of lives.
