It's an opinion (the original tweet) that I've only ever seen espoused by HAES people. I think we can all get behind reducing weight stigma - I don't think that means that BMI is useless

Yes but the post you RTed is from a dietitian. I’m making the point that your epidemiologist “predictive utility” is a different kettle of fish to a clinic patient facing practitioner.

Not sure I agree even in that sense. "BMI and everything it stands for are a detriment" doesn't leave much room for discussion of the relative pros and cons

But you didn’t do a discussion of the pros and cons, you didn’t mention population vs individual you said nah HAES is wrong and I personally find it hard to be fit and fat.

I didn't say that HAES is wrong. I said that the BMI argument is where I part ways. There are many good parts about the movement, I just don't agree with them all

You said HAES was wrong about this when A) “HAES” didn’t say that and B) your uses are very different to clinical uses. People don’t respond to “predictive utility”.

Well, it may be an unfair mischaracterization, but it's an opinion I've only ever seen espoused by HAES people. And I'm not sure that's true? We all make decisions based on what we think is best for us long-term, BMI is one element of that

Lol, ok. That must be why we all eat well, exercise, don’t drink, don’t smoke, never get sunburnt and are of “normal” weights!

As I said, health is not a moral obligation. I'm drinking a delicious white right now and just ate a pizza

You keep saying that like I’m making this argument based on my morals or offence. I’m not. As someone who has post grad qualms in both nutrition & epidemiology that that is a difference in its use between fields. I’m just asking you acknowledge that instead of “countering”.

There is definitely a difference in use between fields. Apologies for the confusion
