It's certainly true that there are people who are "fat but fit", but I can attest from personal experience that it is an extremely hard thing to do BMI is, for most people, a reasonable measure with which to judge future risk of poor health

If you want to bring personal experience into it when I was a “normal BMI” I was malnourished, couldn’t walk up stairs, didn’t play sports, had gross hair, skin, and nails. Now at an “unhealthy” BMI I lift, I run, I glow. I’m not a “population” “at risk”, I’m me and I’m well.
