Apparently everyone wants to know my opinion about sugar today, so I'll remind you that it's not addictive and that there's no good evidence that it's any more harmful to you than any other source of excess calories

Unless you're poor, in which case it amounts to little more than a tax on being poor. If you're middle class-upwards, you won't notice anyway. So many better ways to educate people about health and balanced diets, the sugar tax is lazy interventionism.

But isn’t that an argument for well-funded public health interventions rather than a sugar tax?

Unless you’re poor and lack access to healthier, low cost alternatives. A tax on it is stupid and won’t change rates for obesity or improve general public health.

Processed foods are already taxed (GST), fresh produce is not. Let's not add more tax burden to consumers.
-
Why not? Given impact on NHS, and it's underfunding, might be quite a good way of raising revenue.

Teeth. Type II diabetes. Childhood obesity. Small quantities would be ok, but we subsidize the production and underprice it. Pull the subsidies, price it fairly, maybe we'd be ok. Oh, and people die in the cane fields.

I'm really hoping you're being facetious about their being strong evidence that health education/healthy eating programmes 'work'! Especially if you're talking about school-based ones.
