I disagree on this one. Products were made to last and cost was worthwhile to consumers. Better quality materials that justified cost and longevity. Things were made to be able to get fixed with replaceable parts and less waste because of it. The consumer mentality was different

I’m in the appliance industry and hear this all the time. For every person’s grandmother still using a 30 year old refrigerator, there were thousands hauled away and taken to the dump.

Many things were not better in the old days, of course, but some were definitely better. If you ever examine the lumber on an old house you’ll note it was much better. 2 by 4s were 2”x4”, etc. But the insulation (if any) was pathetic.
