But whilst something may not appear to have clinical significance under our current understanding that may change in the light of further research - think of uncertainties associated with, for eg, the microbiome. Historic non-reporting could then have been damaging to progress

There needs to be caution and consideration though; so much research is done without thought for how it impacts the clinical picture. This paper is a great example https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/22985951/ … with funding shortages we really need to be asking for the clinical impact of all research
