Can we talk about TRIAL PRE-REGISTRATION? Boring as hell, but it's one of the things that can improve science. Too bad it's being ABUSED, like in this here walnut study. It's a THREAD, but short.https://academic.oup.com/jn/advance-article/doi/10.1093/jn/nxz289/5680186 …

Did you see this one? Pre registered all of their outcomes, even wrote them into the paper but when it came to talking to the press, suddenly only the two outcomes that were positive matteredhttps://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1218017601680338944?s=19 …

Health NerdVerified account @GidMKThis is a pretty funny one: - randomized controlled trial - no benefit for coffee in any of the 4 primary outcomes - no benefit for coffee in 25/27 of the secondary outcomes - no benefit for weight loss - somehow concludes that coffee aids weight loss - FUNDED BY NESTLE pic.twitter.com/qZ4xcT8pJsShow this thread1 reply 1 retweet 9 likes -

But it was an interesting finding - 4% body fat loss. And they did say in the paper that everything they were looking for was negative but they found this interesting thing. I actually thought it wasn't too bad.

Given the pre/post values and the lack of correction, it's likely it was a statistical anomaly. They tested 31 things and 2 were positive, that's pretty close to random chance! Also, change in fat mass but no change in weight, waist circ, FFM etc...

I feel like it's exactly what you were talking about - test everything and at least one thing will be positive! Then, even though the study makes quite a good case for coffee not helping with weight loss at all (because it didn't!) there are articles everywhere about how it might
