Always hard in these situations to get over survivorship bias tho By definition, you only ever see the people who succeed. How many fail?https://twitter.com/BiggestComeback/status/1211669477869400064 …

I KNOW this because I am surrounded by scores of other men & women, many of whom are older than I am, who are absolutely crushing it in the gym, on the track, in the pool, etc. Many of these people were even heavier than I was (278 lbs) & many were sicker than I ever was... 2/5

Most fail, & I believe that’s because most are using an approach that cannot work over the long term. I’m not saying there is only one workable approach, but I am saying those who use an unworkable approach will never succeed.

Mmm but my point is that you probably are in fact an anomaly, but you don't see it because by definition you only see people who succeed 🤷‍♂️

I have a clear understanding of what survivorship bias is & I understand your point. I’m not ready to accept the fact that successful long-term weight loss & significantly increased fitness is an abnormality. I’m inspired by the healthcare providers who feel the same way.

Well, the evidence certainly suggests the opposite 🤷‍♂️

On the surface, yes it does. Sad state of affairs...

You’re right that large majority fail. I guess that means one is ‘abnormal’ or above average If they succeed. My point is my success is not due to some ‘abnormal’ quality or ability I possess. I previously failed many times. My success is due to FINALLY finding a viable path

I guess it depends how you define abnormality. But my point is that it may have been a viable path for you, but the best evidence suggests it's not for the majority of people who try it

Ok, I get your point. Again, I’m not at all suggesting ‘my way’ is the only way. But there are far too many people using strategies that have fatal flaws. They have almost no chance of success.
