Holy shit "we identify 30 (29 previously unreported) independent-loci associated with income" GWAS linking genes to income. THIS IS SO PROBLEMATIC WHAT EVENhttps://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-019-13585-5#Sec2 …

Even this image is...something else. Genes cause intelligence which causes income, because intelligence isn't socially influenced/defined AT ALL

Intelligence is determined by both genes and environment. This finding is consistent with that. It's not surprising that intelligence is a determinant of income. They have a FAQ here that may address some of your concerns. https://static-content.springer.com/esm/art%3A10.1038%2Fs41467-019-13585-5/MediaObjects/41467_2019_13585_MOESM2_ESM.pdf …

The FAQ is very useful, thanks! Raises the question why most of this was not laid out in the article...

That being said, I think the best criticism was from someone in this thread - income is obviously related to genes because much of wealth is inherited. It would be surprising if there was no association

I don't think that explains it. It would only show up in this type of study insofar as there were systematic genetic differences between people who have higher vs. lower income as a result of inheriting more vs. less wealth.

I think there's almost certainly an element of that, yes. There's fairly good evidence that inheritance systematically impacts wealth
