That being said, I think the best criticism was from someone in this thread - income is obviously related to genes because much of wealth is inherited. It would be surprising if there was no association

I don't think that explains it. It would only show up in this type of study insofar as there were systematic genetic differences between people who have higher vs. lower income as a result of inheriting more vs. less wealth.

I think there's almost certainly an element of that, yes. There's fairly good evidence that inheritance systematically impacts wealth
