Fun fact: if "doing your own research" consists entirely of searching for things on the internet and watching YouTube it's not "research" it's "consuming content" and makes you about as reliable a source as any cat video connoisseur

I'm just a regular guy. I don't know how to do do real research. Consuming content on social media saved my health. My doctor and the government and the ADA didn't know how. What's a plebe to do?

The original tweet was a dig at people who read research and then say 'my research suggests’ instead of saying ‘the research I have read suggests’. But you are right it comes over as elitist and suggesting people shouldn’t be reading stuff which they obviously should. I apologise

Not really. The original tweet was a dig at people who use the phrase "done my research", which is almost universally a phrase used when people have not, in fact, done research of any kind

As an example, the very common argument among anti-vaccine activists that they have "done their research" when in fact their main source of information is Youtube videos spouting conspiracy theories

@ahhite I’m glad to see this context. I do you read a number of sources on a topic to try to arrive at some kind of useful or actionable POV for myself. However in cases of something that would include a surgery or medication I don’t don’t just do what a surgeon might recommend
