Fun fact: if "doing your own research" consists entirely of searching for things on the internet and watching YouTube it's not "research" it's "consuming content" and makes you about as reliable a source as any cat video connoisseur

but - all the science is nowadays available to us via the Internet! How do you suggest "people" do their own research - stop doing that and listening to ADA AHA USDA and such?

I’m curious and read a lot of papers outside my areas of expertise. My rule is to acknowledge that I don’t know the methodology or total literature so whenever I think I know something, it’s most likely Dunning-Kruger. I assume the actual experts know better than I do

Yeh pretty much. I check with an expert any time I write a blog that's not specifically about study design/epi, for example
