Never got around top writing about it, but when I looked at the literature I was ~shocked~ at how little support there is for the common belief that stretching prevents injurieshttps://twitter.com/CaulfieldTim/status/1200791416227500033 …

It doesn't cause injuries. It doesn't prevent injuries. Injuries are multifactorial. Static stretching is simply low load tension. Most claims about it are wrong, but it still has value.

I can’t find what I was remembering right now. Essentially, stretching increases risk when planned activity requires bursts of explosive muscular activity and is neutral with things like jogging. Injury risk is increased with stretching past comfortable ROM. Thoughts

The evidence shows that static stretching decreases performance in explosive activities for up to 2 hours post... I’ve never seen evidence that it causes injury, but the reduction in performance is fairly well documented

I'd have to dig for the reference - but one example I recall had to do with stretching pre-workout/race, and the decreased ability for golgi tendon organs to recognize dangerous levels of tension.

I definitely could be misremembering. I’ll try tomorrow.
