Adding to that the several recent reports of deaths or severe handicapping in young children on careless vegan diets is sobering. The adult brain may need less than a growing one, but it's plausible that diets without animal foods could contribute to brain unwellness.

Thank you for helping me clarify. I think well planned vegetarian diets are often lower quality than they look on paper, because they miss inter-nutrient effects such as those of phytates on protein, and undervalue conditionally essential nutrients like taurine.

Ok, so there are potentially lower amounts of protein and taurine in vegetarian diets (although I suspect that many people would disagree with you there) - how does this link to depression?

That's because you've been looking at evidence based on 7DA, or middle class samples who are also less likely to drink smoke and have greater community support & higher income re diet.
