With questions about red meat surfacing it's worth looking at some of the data contradicting the idea that vegetarians are healthiesthttps://twitter.com/SallyB12Movie/status/1183773797998059520 …
I mean, if we're going to look at the epidemiological data, this very small study doesn't really 'contradict' anything. Current systematic review evidence indicates a large benefit associated with vegetarianismpic.twitter.com/CH9p9sIcnp

Also, quite frankly, this new study is one of the least impressive pieces of epi research I've seen in a long time. Definitely not a basis for any decision making imo

Oh, just realized it's not new at all! From 2014. Probably explains a lot actually

Nearly all benefits from epi studies have RRs <2 meaning they’re all highly uncertain, including the one i cited, yes.
-
Ehhhh, bit of an outdated idea. RRs >2 can be more misleading anyway, depends really on study quality more than risk increase per se For example, saw an RR of 9 (CI 1.01-290) the other day, that's a worthless estimate

Bigger studies that hint reasons. So eg they tend to exercise more; BUT look at mental health problems, menstruation etc. Also, much research relies on 7DA populations. These have greater social support networks, less poverty, faith, so less manifest issues.pic.twitter.com/3jhlYJPXSb

Also many vegans/vegetarians are middle class. When you look at where poverty is rife, vegetarians don't share the same improved health - take life expectancy in India for eg. Whereas life expectancy high in high meat eating nations
